Chip Boaz |
Ray Barretto had some huge hits in the sixties
with his funky latin style known as bugalu. Most of these hits
were held together by some extremely catchy bass lines. The
original musician credits for these songs went out to "Big Daddy" and
"Mr. Soul". Many rumors went around for years about the actual
identity of these bassists. Thanks to Latin Bass Network member
and incredible bassist Ruben Rodriguez, we got the word from Ray
himself that Big Daddy was Bobby Rodriguez and Mr. Soul was Bobby
Valentin. Truly historical bass work by two of the greats of
latin bass playing.
