This Cha Cha Cha has become a popular piece since its debut on the 1989 Irakere album Calzada Del Cerro. Carlos Del Puerto's playing on this recording offers a modern interpretation of Cha Cha Cha bass playing. His frequent use of tenths to outline chords creates a different shape to the line, while presenting a more colorful harmonic motion. His conscious use of articulations develops into a personalized phrasing within the rhythmic structure. In the last half of the recording, Del Puerto uses slapping as a color to raise the dynamic level. There's a good bit of study in this piece that will expand your approach to the Cha Cha Cha.
