Imagine that one of the most influential latin
musicians of all time decided to re-record some of the most influential
salsa songs of all time from his former group that set the standard for
hard-driving, improvisational salsa. Then the first song on the
album features a big bass solo. High pressure for some, but not
for New York bassist Joe Santiago. A regular member of Eddie
Palmieri's group, Joe jumped at the chance to participate in La
Perfecta II, largerly because he spent so much time watching the
original La Perfecta in the 60's. His solo statement on El
Molestoso II marks both the influence of La Perfecta and his own unique
voice. There are some great rhythmic, chordal, and melodic ideas
here, showing Joe's important voice in the modern age of New York Salsa.
