Latin Jazz This Week will bring you a weekly look into news from the Latin Jazz world. You’ll find new releases, recommended performances, web finds, and more. Information about New Releases will be kept in the Current Releases tab at the top of the page.
Drummer Marlon Simon will be releasing a new album of Latin Jazz with a group of jazz musicians from France in May. While we’re all excited for this release from our winner of LJC’s Latin Jazz Album of 2007 Award, we’ve got something to tide us over – you can check out some sound clips on the group’s MySpace Page.
After parting ways with Jazz at Lincoln Center, Arturo O’Farrill found a new home for The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra at The Symphony Space. This important ensemble continues to maintain traditional Latin Jazz repertoire and break ground on new compositions with a three-part series. The first show, A New Perspective, took place this past October and can be streamed online HERE. Their second concert revisited the music from their first CD release, Un Noche Inolvidable, took place last week on January 25th. The last performance in this series, Música Nueva, will explore combinations of timba and jazz; the group will host shows March 27th – March 29th. Purchase tickets HERE.
