NEWS
The legendary New York concert series “Salsa Meets Jazz” is returning this month after a long hiatus. The concerts series brings together a top Latin band with a prominent jazz soloist, often to rousing results. The promoters have picked the perfect Latin band to start the series - the Bobby Sanabria Big Band. Joining the group will be percussionist Candido Camero and jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis. The concert will be held at New York’s Le Passion Rouge on October 13th. For more info, go to the club’s website.

The city of New York declared that Columbus Avenue between 94th and 95th Streets would now be known as Mario Rivera Plaza, in honor of the great Dominican saxophonist who made such an impact upon Latin Jazz through his work with Tito Puente and more.

Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenon was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the “genius” award, for his work in Latin Jazz. The fellowship awards Zenon $500,000 over the next five years to pursue artistic avenues. Way to go Miguel! For more info, go HERE.
