NEWS
Argentinean vocalist Sofia Rei Koutsovitis releases her latest album Sube Azul in the States this week, and it’s an incredible recording that you don’t want to miss. You’ll hear more about this one in future LJC release, but trust me on this one. If you’d like to get a preview before picking up the actual disc, Koutsovitis and her group was recently featured on Global Hit from PRI’s The World. There’s a great interview and live performance, definitely worth checking out. You can download or stream the MP3 of the show HERE.

The Latin Grammys delivered a bundle of awards this past Thursday night in Los Vegas, with many of them going to the very popular group Calle 13. Still, the massively huge reggaeton/hip hop group couldn’t steal the Latin Jazz award - that honor went to Bebo Valdes and Chucho Valdes for their album Juntos Para Siempre. There were a number of fine nominees in this year’s category, so it’s certainly hard to narrow the decision down to one album. The WBGO radio show The Checkout with host Josh Jackson offers a wealth of great interviews for the jazz audience. I’ve become swiftly addicted to this show and recently added it to my podcast subscriptions in iTunes. You can do the same, but here’s a heads-up on a great interview that you don’t want to miss. Jackson recently talked with pianist Arturo O’Farrill on a variety of subjects. They spend a good deal of time talking about O’Farrill’s latest album Risa Negra, as well as his musical family, The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, and his recent composition dedicated to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
