Welcome To The LJC Best Of 2009 Awards - Poll Are Open Now!

The polls are now officially opened for the Latin Jazz Corner Best of 2009 Awards. It’s been an incredible year of music with some clearly definable high points. The awards are a great way to recognize the hard work that artists put into this music that we love. We’re in our third year of awards and it’s always a nice way to look back upon the past 365 days of music. It’s also an opportunity to respect the amazing work that these artists do and place a permanent endorsement from the Latin Jazz community upon their recordings. Join the LJC community and take the plunge into the Best of 2009 Awards.

So get ready to vote - you can find the polls HERE. Take some time to reflect upon the year’s Latin Jazz albums before you cast your vote though; once you submit your vote, we log your IP address and close your poll for that category. You get one vote - so make sure that you make it count. I created a list of nominees, limiting myself to 10 selections for Album Of The Year, Next Generation Artist, and Hall Of Fame - all the other categories only got 5 selections. There were some tough choices, but I think it’s a good, solid start. On each ballot, I’ve included links to the LJC review of the album if you want to reference it. If you don’t see your favorite artist or 2009 release, fear not - you can add them to the list of nominees. Simply fill out the nomination form and that musician will go into a Potential Nominee list below the ballot. Once that musician gains five nominations, they will jump onto the actual ballot. There are some guidelines for entries that you should check out before submitting a nominee - you can find them HERE. There’s been lots of fantastic work this year, so let’s support it all!

The polls will be open for a total of three weeks, giving your favorite artists plenty of time to garner votes. Along the way, you can check out the results and see who leads the pack on any given day. It’s an exciting ride with a number of ups and downs along the way - check back often to stay informed. The polls will close at midnight on Wednesday December 23, 2009; at that point, the winners will be chosen. After a short break for the holiday, LJC will be back with the results of the awards. Every day between December 26 and December 31, I’ll announce the winners in three to four categories. As we move into 2010, all the winners will find a permanent home in a “Best Of 2009″ tab on the LJC page for all future visitors to read.

The awards are a great way to introduce your friends to the Latin Jazz world or enjoy the community with your fellow fans. Spread the word about the awards and encourage people to come vote for their favorite artists. Send out e-mails to all of your friends asking for them to support your favorite Latin Jazz artists. Create a Facebook page dedicated to your top choice and send people towards the polls. Send out a series of Tweets with your favored selections for each category and start some conversation among your Twitter followers. Log onto your regular forums and make a bold statement about Latin Jazz artists with a link to the polls. The goal of the awards is to create some excitement around Latin Jazz musicians and recognize the great work that they do - rally around this cause and take the opportunity to put Latin Jazz in the forefront of people’s attention.

So head over to the polls and show your support for Latin Jazz. Let’s recognize the best that the Latin Jazz world has to offer and show our appreciation for their artistry. I’m excited about the possibility and I’m looking forward to seeing the results. Enjoy!
