The Latin Jazz Corner Best Of The Year Awards is an annual event fueled by the will of our readers – the winners are selected through a voting process open to LJC readers, Latin Jazz artists, Latin Jazz fans, and the general public. For the past four years, we’ve been opening the ballots to the world and letting the votes accumulate in each category. The process definitely runs around a “reader’s choice” mentality, as artists and fans encourage everyone that they know to visit the polls. The open process levels the playing field a bit, allowing new traditions to show their emerging potential, unknown artists to gain some notoriety, and established artists to get the respect they deserve. Every year, the results inspire us, surprise us, thrill us, anger us, and fill us with pride around our favorite artists, but it’s always an exciting ride that throws a bit of fire into the Latin Jazz world. It’s a great event that brings a lot of excitement and attention to the Latin Jazz world every December. You can learn more about the awards and the voting process HERE.
We’ve been running the LJC Awards since 2007, so you can check out the winners from each year through the links below. Each page displays the winners for that year, along with links to information about the artist or album featured. The winners are solely based on the amount of votes that the artist or album garnered during the course of the awards; LJC provides some initial nominees, but the winners are driven by the will of the voters. The number of categories have grown since the inception of the Best Of The Year Awards, so as you move from 2007 to 2010, you’ll find a number of different categories. At the same time, you’ll find a certain amount of consistency in the awards and categories that will allow you to see the focus of the awards throughout the years.
So check out the awards below and see who drew the greatest support from LJC voters over the years!
